What do you think the biggest benefits of Modular Blocks are? Is there any situation you could foresee where it may not be best to use Modular Blocks?

Mostly the fact that they give content editors freedom in how they want to order and construct a page. Therefore it offers both reusability and freedom to structure pages the way they want to while from a technical perspective offering a consistent block of data the front-end can use to render said block.

While offering these blocks gives a lot of freedom, this could backfire. Say in a design of a page, the order is set. Whenever this becomes a modular block, content editors could shuffle it around ‘breaking’ the original intended design order. Therefore, choose wisely what should come where, and ensure this is aligned with the designers before building a modular block as such.

Building the modular blocks as a method to implement a design system has high advantages as make a structure that serves as a guide for new editors and content creators to follow and make an application that is coherent within itself.

However, there is always sort of content that has to be done separately or new content that requires adjusting or creating new modules that may affect how the application has been done until now.

Modular blocks is a key feature that enables editors to define a page structure in a flexible way. In combination with Global Fields it provides high reusability of blocks or components.

While it’s a game changer feature, it should be used wisely and in agreement between designers and users, defining constraints and boundaries. Allowing too much flexibility could defy the site design.

Modular blocks is a powerful feature that gives the content editors, the ability to shape the structure of a page in whatever way they like, to rearrange the blocks in any order. These major changes can be made without the involvement of a developer.

However, this comes with a drawback. While making major changes to the structure, an editor may rearrange some components of the page causing the design to disturb.

I believe the importance of modular blocks is allowing the content creators to become creative with how each content can become unique. Without modular blocks, each page would be a copy and paste of each other and would follow too much uniformity.

In my opinion, modular blocks allows the content creator/administrator/user of the application to design the structure of a page. Also, once I worked with Wagtail as a Headless cms and we used something similar to create custom forms, so the user would be able to create any form with the given fields (modular blocks) and then rendered in the Front end (angular)

In a drag and drop UI world, content authors need the ability to easily reorder sections of a page to accommodate the ongoing changes in design strategy and branding from their marketing departments.

The modular blocks concept facilitates the creation of a basic skeleton of possibilities for content display that the content authors can work within to achieve their content layout update requirements without a major code release.

Modular blocks help to content authors to reorganize and use more or less a kind of design system that helps a lot when you want to change the design or be unique as gives them the capability of changing the UI components easily.

As well as, being easy to use as it doesn’t require code usage, only a drag and drop interface inside content stack, which is a game changer in this case.

Modular blocks give none-developers the chance to rebuild the UI without coding. Editors can easily create new layouts with predefined building blocks. This is a really powerful tool to keep your website up-to-date.

The biggest benefit of modular blocks is the flexibility. It allows the editors to arrange the components of a webpage as they want, istead of having a fixed webpage structure.

The modular blocks helps in organizing the content in a much more better way, to create unique content, rearrange the blocks in any order without the involvement of a developer.

Sure, we have some beneffits using Modular Block, first is re-use the Modular Block field definition across multiple Content Types, main advantage using is centrally manage the fields within the Modular Block from one location

First of all it’s flexibility. So content editor can create whatever landing page needs to be done. Its possible to create a lot of combinations for those pages.

Second it’s easiest way for developers to connect components library with content structures.

We are fortunate to have started using Contentstack before AND after Modular Blocks existed. Therefore, i have clear view on the positive impact they have had on building out page structures for other departments and content editors. Needless to say it was frustrating when the functionality arrived as it was clear that we would need to go back and update the content types we had already developed!

Coupled with global fields, we are then able to quickly and efficiently build out page layouts across multiple pages (content types) whilst having the ability to re-use components.

Use modular blocks:

  • To store data inline within a single entry rather than in multiple referenced entries.
  • To store a series of blocks with different structures.
  • To minimize the need to manage large collections of entries to represent a single web page.
  • To optimize use cases for CMS users and developers.

Modular Blocks will provide the flexibility to the Marketing / Design teams to control the layout with in a page. It will also helps to define the multiple referenced entries which we can re-use. It gives the capability to build websites and apps without compromising design integrity.

Modular blocks give greater control over the structure of the pages. Editor has the flexibility to place the desired components on the desired location.

It makes organizing sections in the website and reuse them!

One of Modular blocks’ biggest benefits is saving up space for the form since the tabs can be minimized and it also helps in organizing the set of fields that would be used.

Modular Blocks is great for customizing a page allowing CMS users to create page layouts easier and specific for their needs.

With the use of modular blocks, users of CMSs can easily and specifically design page layouts to suit their needs. Content-manager have the ability to construct the UI using modular blocks without writing any code.

To add flexibility to create rich pages without the need to engage a developer for changes in the content type structure
Quite in line with the component based approach in modern javascript frameworks.

The biggest benefit of modular blocks are flexibility, modularity and maintainability, more similar to the approaches that most of the javascript frameworks follow.

Allowing the content creators to freely change and reorganize content. This would have saved me so much time on various projects where I had to put the content in and adjust things myself in other CMSs.
