One of the biggest benefits of using Modular Blocks is Reusability which in return promotes less re-work. Modular Blocks is a good approach to group fields which can be required in multiple places, such as grouping Images with Text and Link fields to build Carousel/Slider/Banner.

Modular Blocks is a field that allows content managers to dynamically create and modify components of a page or app on the go.

While creating a new entry, content managers now have the option to choose from multiple blocks, say "Banner" (Single Line Textbox and File fields), "Product Details" (Title, RTE, and File fields), or "Video" (File and Multi-line Textbox fields). Content managers can add the required block(s) from these options, move blocks up or down, remove them, as and when required.

Modular blocks provide all global fields on a single place , we can use global fields according to our need.  The ability to shape the structure of a page in whatever way they like, to rearrange the blocks in any order.

Modular blocks is a powerful feature that gives the content editors, the ability to shape the structure of a page in whatever way they like, to rearrange the blocks in any order. These major changes can be made without the involvement of a developer.

However, this comes with a drawback. While making major changes to the structure, an editor may rearrange some components of the page causing the design to disturb.

Using modular blocks alow us to maintain grouped the information of each components, in this way it makes change and/or reorganize content in the future easier, if needed.

Modular Block gives content managers the flexibility to create rich pages without the need to engage a developer for changes in the content type structure.

Flexibility of changing page content structure and reusable of modular blocks

Module blocks gives flexibility, we can choose what we want on the page, which block and we can choose how we want to order them.

The modular block allow us to have a reusable button, as an example, with all the information we want in that button grouped so we can use it in different places

Modular blocks are generally great to bundle content into blocks and quickly change their order etc which can be nicely mapped in a SPA

I wouldn’t use them if the blocks should show up on multiple pages of the site, I‘d use references instead

  1. Reusability: Modular blocks can be created once and then reused in multiple pages or sections. This helps to save time and effort for content editors and ensures consistency across the website.

  2. Flexibility: With modular blocks, you can combine different types of content such as text, images, videos, and forms in a single block. This makes it easy to create complex layouts without the need for custom coding.

  3. Scalability: As your website grows and evolves, modular blocks can be easily modified or updated to accommodate new requirements.

  4. Localization: Modular blocks can be translated into multiple languages, making it easy to create multilingual content.

  5. Improved content management: Modular blocks can be managed centrally in Contentstack, allowing content editors to easily create, update, and publish content without relying on developers.

From my point of view the biggest benefit of Modular Blocks is flexibility. It allows change page structure fast and easy. Also, very useful to use global fields inside modular blocks. It helps to keep the same structure within different places and not to repeat the same.

The modular block is not a “silver bullet“ and you shouldn’t overload it.

So I would say, the best way to use it is to redesign UI by non-developer users: add a slider, a card section, and so on.

For blocks that should appear on multiple pages of the website, I would rather use references.
